Why Was the Exam Cancelled?
According to the official notification released on May 12, 2026, the NTA examined subsequent inputs in coordination with central agencies and reviewed investigative findings shared by law enforcement. These findings established that the present examination process could not be allowed to stand. The decision was taken entirely in the interest of the students to protect the core trust on which the examination system rests.
Key Decisions: What Every Aspirant Must Know
The government and the NTA have rolled out specific measures to ensure a smooth transition for all candidates:
- Re-Examination Announced: The NEET UG 2026 exam will be re-conducted. Fresh examination dates and a new admit card schedule will be communicated separately through official channels in the coming days.
- CBI Investigation Ordered: To ensure a comprehensive and transparent inquiry into the allegations, the Government of India has handed the matter over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
- No Fresh Registration Needed: Students do not need to apply again. Your registration data, candidate status, and the examination centers opted for in the May 2026 cycle will automatically carry forward to the re-conducted exam. No fresh registration is required.
- 100% Fee Refund: No additional examination fee will be levied on any candidate. Furthermore, the application fees already paid will be fully refunded to the students. The NTA will fund and execute the re-exam utilizing its own internal resources.
