American University of Antigua College of Medicine (AUA) is an accredited international medical school dedicated to providing a medical education of the highest quality, with an emphasis on increasing minority representation and racial diversity in medical education and in the physician workforce. AUA uses a holistic admissions approach to select students with the potential for medical school success and provides them with the resources they need to obtain highly competitive residencies and move on to successful careers in medicine.
The 6+ year MD program (for high school graduates after 12th STD) starts right after high school and begins with a 2 year pre-med program at Manipal Academic of Higher Education, Manipal. 4 semesters of pre-med program at MAHE are in its campus in Manipal, India. Pre-med program is structured in such a way that eligible graduates of MAHE are able to start MD program at AUA (American University of Antigua).
AUA’s 4+ year MD program is broken into two segments – Basic sciences program (semesters 1 thru 4) and BSIC – Basic Science Integrated Course – are offered in Antigua. Once students get past BSIC, they have to take the first of the licensure exams – Step 1. Post Step 1, they move on to the mainland US and continue semesters 5 thru 8 which are the clinical sciences semesters. During clinical sciences, students will complete 84 weeks of clinical rotations in various hospitals across US. Once students complete all core rotations (44 weeks), they are able to take the second licensure exam (Step 2 – segregated into CK – Clinical Knowledge and CS – Clinical Skills). Eligible graduates of AUA move on to their “residency training” in the areas of their interest/specialization and thereafter become licensed to practice in US, Canada and UK.
